‘Neurodivergent’ Isn’t a Diagnosis—It’s a Design Upgrade
Blog 2 of 10 from the Truth Bomb Series by Jools Teare
You know what I’m bloody done with?
The word “disorder.”
Disordered compared to what? Some mythical, perfectly functioning human who eats kale, files their tax return early, and never once cried in a B&M car park?
Fuck. That.
I’m not disordered—I’m limited edition.
You too, darling. If you’ve got an ADHD brain, an autistic brain, a spicy-sparkly synapse situation that doesn’t match the school handbook… congratulations. You weren’t broken at birth.
You were overclocked at the factory.
🚨 The Diagnosis Is Real—but So Is the Design
Don’t get me wrong—I’m not skipping through a meadow ignoring how hard it can be.
Executive dysfunction is a bastard.
Sensory overload? Like being trapped in a haunted disco with your nan’s perfume trying to kill you.
But here’s the thing: my brain isn’t faulty, it’s just built for a different purpose.
While some people are spreadsheets, we are collage.
While they’re filing cabinets, we’re mood boards, lava lamps and guerrilla poetry.
And that’s not a fucking flaw.
✨ The World Was Built for Beige Brains
Let’s not pretend we’re struggling because of our wiring.
We’re struggling because we’re trying to operate a glitter cannon in a world made for printers.
The systems—school, work, bloody GP waiting rooms—are all calibrated to a “norm” that doesn’t actually exist. And when you glitch out or go full jazz hands at the wrong time, the world labels it a disorder.
Well, bugger that.
🦄 What If We Treated ND Brains Like a Superpower?
Imagine if we stopped seeing neurodivergence as something to manage and started seeing it as something to maximise.
Autistic focus? Laser-beam brilliance.
ADHD imagination? A creative dopamine firework factory.
Sensory sensitivity? Hello, empathy dialled up to eleven.
Pattern spotting? The bloody Da Vinci code has nothing on you.
I don’t want to be accommodated like a sad extra in a BBC drama.
I want to be celebrated, funded, and hired for the extraordinary brain chemistry I’ve been blessed (and sometimes cursed) with.
🛑 Stop Trying to "Fix" Us, We're Busy Doing Magic
The truth is, most of the ND creatives I know are channelling absolute witchcraft just to function in a world that’s allergic to difference.
We hack, we mask, we reframe, we burn out, and we still bloody rise.
Give us a system designed by and for neurodivergent minds?
We’d run the planet by Thursday and still have time to make a zine about it.
💋 Neurodivergent Rebels, You’re Not a Glitch—You’re the Feature
Let me be very clear:
If you’ve ever thought you were lazy, dramatic, inconsistent, too sensitive, too loud, too intense…
You’re not too much.
You are perfectly matched to a world that hasn’t caught up yet.
And we are the early adopters. The beta testers of the next human evolution.
You are the iOS 19 of the species, baby. Everyone else is running on dial-up.
🧨 Power-Up Prompt:
💭 Ask yourself:
What if I stopped trying to be normal and started being powerful?
🛍️ PS: Want Art That Matches Your Brain?
My work is unapologetically ND and proudly chaotic.
It’s designed for rebels, misfits, and wild-hearted thinkers who know the system’s broken but they aren’t.
